Boone Blizzard 2009

So if you've been living under a rock this week...you missed the massive blizzard that hit central Iowa. I'm not sure of the final total but last I heard we (in Boone) were somewhere around 15" of snow all within 20 hours. We were slightly lucky here in Boone that we didn't have any ice (or rain) associated with this storm unlike Southern Iowa.

Matt was scheduled to be in meetings in Omaha Tuesday - Thursday, and with the weather prediction he had to leave early on Monday to beat the storm. Unfortunately that left Patrick and I hope alone all week. I could have never imagined how hard it was to try to transport the baby in a blizzard to daycare. I walk Patrick to daycare (a few houses away) each day, but this storm made it nearly impossible to get anywhere. The snow was knee to hip deep....quite the workout!

When I woke up at 5am Wednesday morning, I opened my sliding doors to find this snow drift....and needless to say, a lot of it entered my kitchen. Then I realized I had to shovel myself out of my house....the snow had drifted over all the doors! (In fact, one of my co-worker's husband had to climb out of a window to shovel out their doors to get her to work).

We were so happy to see Matt come home on Thursday night. We took the opportunity to take Patrick outside to "play" in the snow for the first time.

This was a snow drift outside of the sliding doors off our kitchen...

it's hard to tell here, but the landscaping bricks around the tree are 2 bricks deep...and mostly buried.
our driveway (I only had the energy to shovel our front sidewalk)
These are photos of family fun in the snow...
